it’s national midwifery week and i want to celebrate our wonderful midwives! i am enjoying looking at these images i’ve taken at births of these strong midwives. they are hard working, confident and courageous, striving for excellence in the care they give. images shared with permission.
crystal mullins fink with breath of life midwifery
crystal became a licensed midwife in 2009 after a 5 year apprenticeship. She is an avid supporter of VBAC, family-centered care and informed consent. she is an active member of the virginia midwives alliance (VMA) and serves on it’s board. crystal loves teaching and is working to train midwives throughout the area, especially in under-served areas. not only is crystal a teacher, but she is a life-time learner, like me, and is always building her knowledge base and learning new skills, techniques, and approaches to midwifery care. she has completed specialized training in emergency obstetric care, neonatal resuscitation, breech birth, shoulder dystocia, fetal positioning, out-of-hospital fetal assessment, and cultural competency. she is current in CPR-BLS, NRP, and ALSO certifications.

degra nofsinger with luna midwifery
degra resides in roanoke and attends home births in the surrounding communities, including the NRV, floyd county, and franklin county. she has been licensed in VA since 2009. she provides complete prenatal care, labor and birth care, and postpartum and newborn care. she offers a family-centered approach to maternity care. degra believes that empowering mothers and their families to make their own choices for care leads to the best outcomes. she puts particular emphasis on in-home postpartum and newborn care. she is a Medicaid provider. se habla espanol.

also, milk is magic breastfeeding consultation is a great resource for new moms with breastfeeding questions. i have met alli martin. she is a registered nurse at lewisgale hospital in salem, va and also a mom of a one year old! we did a breastfeeding portrait session. she is a researcher at heart and has started milk is magic consultation for breastfeeding moms to have a safe place to ask questions and get answers.
